What is ashtanga yoga?
Ashtanga Yoga is the name given to the traditional yoga method taught by Sri K Pattabhi Jois (1918-2009) in Mysore, India.
It is characterized by the synchronization of movement with breath (vinyasa).
The practice of ashtanga is transformative thanks to the application of three fundamental elements that we call “tristhana”: ujjai (breathing technique), bandhas (internal muscle locks) and drishti (gazing technique). All these allow us to experience fast benefits from the practice, such as:
· An increase of the energy levels and concentration.
· An increase of flexibility, strength and physical resistance.
· A detoxification of the body and an improvement of blood circulation.
· A weight reduction and digestion improvement.
· A sleep regulation and stress decrease.
The classes are divided in:
Mysore Style: each student practices on his/her own rhythm and receives individual instructions from the teacher. The practitioner progresses through a series of postures respecting his/her physical capacity, breathing capacity and his/her drive.
Led classes (Friday evening): the students are guided through the primary series in a traditional way.
